Small Business Saturday was founded by American Express in 2010 to promote shopping at locally owned businesses, and support local economies in the holiday season. It was intentionally set to be the day after Black Friday and serve as a contrast to the promotion of big box stores that have changed business for local stores. While Small Business Saturday is a great one-day event, it's important to consider shopping at local businesses as much as you can throughout the year.
